Liver Function Profile (LFT) reads your liver's health through a panel of enzymes and proteins — SGPT, SGOT, bilirubin, albumin and their colleagues — each telling the doctor something different: whether liver cells are irritated, whether bile is flowing freely, and whether the liver's manufacturing work is up to standard.
Fatty liver is now the most common reason for abnormal LFTs in Kerala, driven by weight, diabetes and alcohol — and the encouraging news is that fatty liver reverses with the same three levers. LFTs are also routine before starting many medications, and essential monitoring for anyone on long-term drugs that touch the liver.
The panel is one home blood draw, no fasting strictly required, processed at an NABL-grade partner laboratory. An abnormal report is a conversation starter with your physician — often leading to an ultrasound and a lifestyle plan rather than medicine. Reports reach your app, usually within a day.
Mild elevations are extremely common and usually mean fatty liver, especially with weight or diabetes around. It reverses with weight, diet and exercise — but every abnormal LFT deserves a doctor's read and a follow-up plan.
