Preparation
Random Blood Glucose (RBS) measures your blood sugar at whatever time of day the sample is drawn, regardless of your last meal. That simplicity is its superpower: when someone has classic symptoms — excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss — a random glucose of 200 mg/dL or more, along with symptoms, is enough for a doctor to suspect diabetes on the spot.
It is also the pragmatic screening test when fasting is impractical — for walk-in assessments, for elderly patients, or for a quick check during an illness. At ₹49 with home collection anywhere in Trivandrum, it is the lowest-friction sugar test we offer.
Remember its limits: a normal random value does not rule out diabetes the way a fasting test does. If symptoms suggest diabetes but random glucose is normal, your doctor will follow with fasting glucose or HbA1c. Book any slot — no preparation whatsoever.
Random is taken anytime, fasting after 8–10 hours without food. Random is for quick assessment when symptoms are present; fasting gives the standard diagnostic reading.
