Preparation
Amylase (Serum) measures the level of amylase, a digestive enzyme, in your blood. It is the classic first-line test when someone turns up with sudden, severe upper abdominal pain — the signature complaint of pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas that ranges from uncomfortable to life-threatening.
Amylase rises sharply when the pancreas is inflamed, and also rises in some salivary gland problems and gut conditions, which is why doctors frequently pair it with lipase (a more pancreas-specific enzyme) when the diagnosis is unclear.
The test is a simple blood draw with no fasting needed in most cases, collected at your home in Trivandrum. If your abdominal pain is severe, persistent, or comes with vomiting and fever, do not wait for a home slot — severe acute pancreatitis needs emergency hospital care.
Fasting is not usually required, though many doctors prefer a morning sample alongside lipase. Follow the preparation note on your booking screen.
